چکیده

The inductance L of the laser discharge shows an abrupt high peak which is attributed to the temporary plasma constriction [4]. This is due to the attractive electromagnetic forces (Laplace force) because of the parallel motion of the electrons. The following expansion of the plasma is caused by the finite time required for the electric field to penetrate into the plasma. This is due to the well-known skin depth effect [!j, 61. This phenomenon is described by the equation

Enhanced Modulation and Noise Characteristics in 1.55 µm QD Lasers using Additional Optical Pumping

The modulation response, relative intensity noise (RIN) and frequency noise (FN) characteristics of quantum dot (QD) lasers are investigated theoretically in the presence of an external optical beam. Using small signal analysis of the rate equations for carriers and photons, it is demonstrated that by injecting excess carriers into the QDs excited state through optical pumping, the modulation r...

Sideband locking of a single-section semiconductor distributed-feedback laser in an optical phase-lock loop.

The bandwidth and performance of optical phase-lock loops (OPLLs) using single-section semiconductor lasers (SCLs) are severely limited by the nonuniform frequency modulation response of the lasers. It is demonstrated that this restriction is eliminated by the sideband locking of a single-section distributed-feedback SCL to a master laser in a heterodyne OPLL, thus enabling a delay-limited loop...

Gain and Bandwidth Enhancement of Directly Modulated Analog Fiber Optic Links Using Injection-Locked Gain-Coupled DF'B Lasers

Sub-carrier-multiplexed (SCM) fiber optic systems have received much attention for local access networks, fiber radios, and cable television distributions [l]. With SCM, multiple channels of analog videos and digital telephony/data can all be simultaneously transmitted by a single optical carrier and detected by the same photodetector. Direct modulation of semiconductor lasers is a simple, low-...

Dynamic properties of quantum dot distributed feedback lasers: high speed, linewidth and chirp

The dynamic properties of distributed feedback lasers (DFBs) based on InAs/InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) are studied. The response function of QD DFBs under external modulation is measured, and the gain compression with photon density is identified to be the limiting factor of the modulation bandwidth. The enhancement of the gain compression by the gain saturation with the carrier density in QDs is...
